Big Red Show- Saturday Sep 29, 2018 (Slayter Auditorium) As per tradition, Burpee's opened up our yearly season of improv by welcoming in students and their families during Big Red Weekend with a set featuring our most beloved short form improv games. From "Gumby" and "Town Hall," to "Madrigal" and "Ding," it was an interactive show that brought back all the Burpee classics to Denisonian fans in the audience. Kappa Karnival- Saturday Oct 13, 2018 (East Quad Steps) Performing on a venue that we have never experienced before was a bit unnerving, but it was all for a good cause! Our short improv set went towards Kappa Kappa Gamma's philanthropy at their fall philanthropy event, which benefitted the national literacy organization "Reading is Fundamental." To all the Greek and Multicultural Organizations on Denison's campus, a Burpee's improv show can be a fun and cheap way to have 30 min of entertainment for your philanthropic event. Burpee's in Chicago- Oct 18-21, 2018 (Chicago, IL) For the first time in four years, Burpee's returned to Chicago to perform improv, to network, and to watch improv and stand up at some of the most renowned comedy venues in the world. We were invited up onstage to perform a third of a set with the Chicago team Glass Basement at iO, we toured Second City (snapping a picture with Steve's headshot in his BSTC shirt), and performed a show in a packed apartment with 25+ Burpee and Denison alumni from varying generations who live in the Chicago area. We also had the opportunity to visit Junior Burpee, Erin Stewart, who has been in Chicago all semester in the prestigious Comedy Studies program at Second City- so proud of you, Erin, and can't wait to have you back on the hill in the spring! Halloween Show- Wednesday Oct 31, 2018 (Graveyard by Smith) Our annual Halloween Show is always a spoooky one- especially this year, when for the first time in years, there was a thunderstorm with a torrential downpour! WHAT TO DO- an outdoor show, for very reasons related to the show's *non-family-friendliness* in its nature, we were stressed. But luckily, Junior Burpee, Atticus Daniels, came to the rescue by obtaining many event tents! So we pitched 4 tents, 2 next to each other facing the other 2. While Burpees who weren't performing stood underneath one side of the tents, the most dedicated Burpees fans who made up the audience stood underneath the opposite ones. It was a very wet but still very fun and adventurous show! Library Study Break Show- Thursday Nov 1, 2018 (Library Atrium) In the one place where people go to get some peace and quiet for quality studying, Burpee's decided to cook up some delicious games and give those students a hot, juicy serving of loud, rambunctious improv. Almost the entire staff of the Knowlton Center even came to support Senior Burpees Meg Odell and Tommy McMaster who work as Peer Advisors- how sweet!! Fall Open Practice- Saturday Nov 10, 2018 (Herrick Hall) Due to a tragic event that took place on campus shortly before this weekend, the Burpee's met and responded by planning this Open Practice for the community. Although this had originally been scheduled as the weekend for our 24 Hour Show, we transformed the Saturday afternoon portion into a few hours that included a safe space for community members to heal through laughter, play games with us if they wished to participate, eat free food, and just be in the company of others. 24 Hour Show- Friday Dec 7- Saturday Dec 8, 2018 (Burke Black Box Theatre) For the first time in years, the 24 Hour Show was NOT held in our usual spot- Herrick Hall. But our creative solution, holding it in the Burke Black Box, ended up being a pretty special one. We decorated the theatre with rainbow string lights, had extra spaces to hide away and take naps when needed, had access to additional levels (i.e. the balcony and staircases) that we could use to explore new improv games and more complex scenes, and had two sets of theatre lights that we used depending on the game. The show was well attended, we ended up raising $250 for the National Center for Transgender Equality (this year's cause), and as usual, the group bonded over our sleep deprivation, silly scenes, and late night/early morning talks.

"Somehow the Burpee’s Way has been handed down from generation to generation since 1979 without adult supervision. The group size has remained about the same (10 to 20 members); they perform at Slayter or the Bandersnatch Coffee House; there’s a mix of men and women and majors (from theatre to biology to political science); only freshmen or transfer sophomores are allowed to audition; the format of the season finale remains the same; even The Book, the bible of all things Burpee, continues to be adhered to..."
From "Leap Before You Look", featured in Denison Magazine Read Full Article "Twenty-four hours... would test the stamina of even the most passionate comic. But the siren call of the gods and goddesses of comedy cannot be ignored. Neither can the people of the hurricane-ridden Virgin Islands, whom the comedy marathon raised funds for in the fall of 2017. And this year’s marathon was even longer than 24 hours. Just six hours before the show began, the Burpees were on stage at TedX Columbus, performing improv about trust." "To say they gave it their all would be an understatement. The Burpees’ improv remained funny and unexpected as always, but their sleep deprivation gave the show an extra touch of eccentricity."
