IT ALL STARTED BACK IN 1979...
...As an outgrowth of a theatre class taught by Denison professor Kevin Hoggard, Burpee's Seedy Theatrical Company is the Nation's Oldest Collegiate Improv Group. Burpee's has seen hundreds of Denison students fill its ranks, most notably award-winning actor Steve Carell, as well as many comedians, actors, directors, and producers that work in the entertainment industry today.
We are traditionally a Short Form Improv group, but since 2016 we have expanded our repertoire to include Long Form as well. We have also collaborated with other Denison performing arts organizations in variety shows, and have even performed at professional venues outside of Denison, including in 2017 at the Davidson Theatre in Downtown Columbus, in front of a live audience of nearly 1,000 people, with TedXColumbus for a globally streamed Ted Talk on Trust. This year we are hoping to explore more Musical Comedy and collaborate with other Improv and Comedy groups in the Columbus area and beyond.
